Sidney Moorer could soon need a new lawyer.
According to a motion filed Nov. 30, attorney Kirk Truslow has requested to be relieved as Moorer’s pro bono defense counsel.
In the motion, the Myrtle Beach attorney claims “a deterioration in the relationship between him and the Moorer family.”
Following Moorer’s Aug. 2017 conviction on obstruction of justice charges “Defendant and Defendant’s family members accused counsel of conspiring with state prosecutors,” the motion states.
“... Suffice it to say, the further representation in light of the supporting factors to be presented at the hearing or in chambers leads to the clear conclusion that T. Kirk Truslow’s continued representation of Sidney Moorer would not be in the best interest of justice nor in the interest of anyone involved in this case, include Sidney Moorer.
Specifics regarding the matter are being held under a gag order at the present time, though they are expected to be presented during an upcoming hearing.
Truslow also claims he “remained on the case pro bono despite having fulfilled his contractual obligations to Defendant in order to prevent the new attorney from having to start completely from scratch.”
Truslow has represented Moorer and his wife, Tammy, since 2014. The couple was charged that year with the kidnapping and murder of Socastee resident Heather Elvis, who went missing in Dec. 2013.
Murder charges were dropped against the couple. Moorer’s would escape jail time on kidnapping charges last year, a mistrial declared after jurors were unable to reach a verdict.
Moorer is currently in the midst of a 10-year sentence after being convicted on obstruction of justice charges in August.
